For more than a decade, Ryan ran an import and distribution company in Seattle that was recognized for its industry-leading sustainability initiatives. In 2007, he formed Seattle Microfinance Organization, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to capital for entrepreneurs with limited economic resources. Ryan began his career in Central and South America, working for disaster relief and human rights nonprofits. He received his Master of Arts from Yale University in International Relations and his Bachelor of Arts from Willamette University in Religious Studies. Born and raised in Edmonds by a public school teacher and a small business owner, Ryan now lives in Seattle with his wife and three children. Commissioner Calkins focuses on sustainable economic development at the Port of Seattle, working to ensure that the region's prosperity is shared among all communities. Prior to joining Brooklinen™, Rachel was the Chief Operating Officer at the music brand, Victrola where she was focused on the global supply chain delivering profitable growth and launching new products on-time into the US, LATAM and European markets. Rachel spent her formative years at Sleep Innovations and Innocor when it was a startup and also instrumental in growing the business from $34MM to $1B in annual revenues while leading the growth in various leadership roles along with building out the manufacturing operations in the US to fuel the growth into global consumer markets with large retailers. In 2014, Rachel earned her Executive MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. Her Lean Six Sigma certification from Villanova University and bachelor's degree in Materials & Logistics Management, Purchasing & Operations and Logistics & Transportation from Michigan State University led her to start her career at Deloitte & Touché Consulting Group with a focus with Fortune 500 Manufacturing and Distribution Companies in the area of Supply Chain Management. Mr. Josh Hunt is a Logistics Management Specialist (LMS) acting as the Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) / In-Transit Visibility (ITV) Branch Chief assigned to the Logistics Sustainment Division (J4-LT). He is responsible for acting as the Department of Defense’s (DoD) lead proponent for ITV, DoD lead functional proponent for Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) and related AIT implementation, and sustainment process owner support for technology implementation and improvement for AIT/ITV. Mr. Hunt’s government career began in 2004 as a U.S. Army Office of the Chief of Transportation (OCOT) intern. He was trained in DoD transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. Mr. Hunt next supported the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command’s (SDDC) 838th Transportation Battalion in Rotterdam NL. He deployed numerous times to the seaports of Rotterdam NL, Bremerhaven GE, and Antwerp BE in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom cargo loads/discharges. Mr. Hunt was reassigned as a freight router for SDDC G9 at Fort Eustis, VA responsible for quality control of trucking service requests. In 2008 Mr. Hunt was employed as a Marine Cargo Specialist (MCS) for SDDC G3 developing sealift and intermodal transportation solutions. In 2009 he became a Navy civilian and supported USTRANSCOM J3 as a Marine Transportation Specialist (MTS) for Military Sealift Command (MSC) at Scott Air Force Base. During this time, he acted as a sealift Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the development of cost efficient, operationally effective sealift/intermodal solutions. In 2016 Mr. Hunt shifted roles providing SME engagement as an MSC employee for USTRANSCOM J5-IS, focusing on organic vessel recapitalization. In May 2019 Mr. Hunt became an Air Force civilian supporting the Logistics Sustainment Directorate (J4-L), focusing on ITV modernization. In December 2020 he assumed the role of Governance Branch Chief supporting strategic forums to include the Joint Deployment and Distribution Executive Board (JDDEB). In January of 2022, Mr. Hunt took his current position as the AIT/ITV Branch Chief focusing on ITV modernization. From 2004-2019 Mr. Hunt served in the U.S. Navy Reserve’s Strategic Sealift Officer (SSO) Program and held a U.S. Coast Guard Unlimited Tonnage Third Mate’s License.
